To Infinity and Beyond in Both Directions:
From Nanotechnology to Cosmology

by Eldon Byrd

We sit here in relational constructs

Echoes of pages

School, education, institutions, security seeking

Calling for additive steps a pathway to Wisdom

While even mere survival begs a quantum leap towards wholeness.

Awakening belatedly that unless we can call a halt to our compelling path,

We will suffer the lash of our ignorance.

It is necessary to move away from substituting one or another limiting

Institutional structure

To bring into being a new value system.

Non-additive

Non-linear

Non-competitive

In service to mankind

The cry "To Infinity and Beyond" of Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story has been expanded upon to include technologies of the infinitely small and those concerned with the infinitely large. Actually, it goes beyond two dimensions--into the realm of hyperspace, super strings and the 10 or 26 dimensions of the Universe. There are scientific explorations going on--right now--that will take us into places where time is a variable and can be reversed, and where the very fabric of what we call space-time can be warped and manipulated. Time travel is now an accepted serious area of study for physicists. The science fiction of just a few years ago is now becoming a reality. Read on, the door is open. Your imagination is no longer a limiting factor. We can explore virtual and "real" realities beyond the imagination and look at how they will impact our future. At long last, the Mind and Consciousness are included in modern science--creating a new paradigm that has been sought for decades by the forward thinkers of our immediate past and our present.

Some of the technologies include:

Nanotechnology--what is it? why is it important? what can we do with it? what is the promise for the future?

Hyperspace--What is it? Where is it? Why is it important? What can we do with it? What is the promise for the future? Are "hyperspace" and the "aetheric realm" and the "spirit world" and the "other dimensions" all the same place?

Chaos, Fractals, and Scalars--what are they? Why are they important? What can we do with them? What is their promise for the future?

Medical Breakthroughs--including electromagnetic medicine, subtle energy medicine, understanding how and why homeopathic remedies can work, the role of the mind in medicine, etc.

Cosmology--What’s new? Why should I care? Are warp drive and faster than light communications possible? When?

What the planet and humankind are on the verge of becoming is beginning to become evident. We are emerging from a deep sleep to find our true identity. The recent discovery that there are only 30,000 active genes in human DNA may become a humbling event. We share 5 of those genes with a banana. Maybe we aren’t as evolved as we like to think. After the shock wears off, the profundity of the failure of science to explain how we are biologically put together will set in. Life is much more subtle and unexplainable that we imagined. However, there are answers lurking out there in the quantum realm and in the realm of the interaction of consciousness with what we call the "physical world".

Recent scientific experiments point the way toward a new way of looking at our world. Whereas only a few years ago we were looking inside the atom, we can now look inside the constituents of the atom and notice that "matter" is not composed of "stuff" at all, but rather of events. At the sub-atomic level, events are not fixed and they are not measured in space and with time. The quantum world is a world of probabilities and non-local events, where light (photons) and subtle energies rule.

Almost daily, a new discovery is made that draws into question our current worldview about the nature of the Universe, the nature of man, and the nature of Nature.

The view that it is possible to separate the objective from the subjective is failing. The hangers-on in science still contend that the only real approach to truth is by the Scientific Method--hypothesis, controlled experiment, measurement, replication. However, many (if not most) scientists are beginning to realize that there is more to the Universe, Man, and God than Horatio ever dreamed. Under the rigid thumb of science, God cannot exist unless He can be proven by the narrow definitions imposed. Reports of interactions with aliens or heavenly beings used to get people burned at the stake or sainted. Now, such reports are dismissed out of hand and relegated to the purgatory of the subjective. Experience (the only thing we can have) is considered unreliable. Only the religion of science with its dogma, hierarchical structure, excommunication procedures, and rituals (the scientific method) are doctrine. All else is heresy. Or so say the skeptics.

The scientific method has been wonderful in its ability to provide answers and predictive models for our physical 4-dimensional space-time. However, it has failed, in its old form, to include the subjective, experiential, higher dimensional, virtual, quantum, event-based "realities". There are other ways of knowing that transcend science.

The matrix, or fabric, or aether of the vacuum (space) appears to pervade the Universe. In the traditional Anglo-Saxon religion of the British Isles, it was considered a network of consciousness and energy called the wyrd. It is from this word and this notion that our common English word is derived. When something is out of the ordinary, we say it is "weird". Science now has to come to grips with the fact that ancient traditions, myths, and concepts were basically valid (even if some of them seem a bit wyrd). Only today, we can "prove" them. Eventually, science and mysticism will merge. "Paranormal" will become normal as we understand the principles upon which everything operates. Michio Kaku recently said that any day now we will have the equations that describe the Theory of Everything (a unification of all of the forces and mechanisms in the Universe). An understanding of the Universe based on more subtle mechanisms than Newton or even Einstein could have conceived. Of course, "we" know that the Universe is really a Multi-verse--it has only appeared to be ‘Uni’. It is now giving up some of its secrets because science is catching up with knowledge. One of the overlooked creative mechanisms in the Universe is the creation of space. If the Universe is expanding, as Einstein suggested, and there is neither time nor space outside it, then it must be creating space in order to expand.

There is mounting evidence that we may be able to communicate with everything in the Universe. Instantly. Also, that a type of "awakening" is taking place--that we don’t really "learn" anything, but simply discover what we already knew.

Hinduism, Buddhism, mystical Christianity, Kabalistic Judaism, Sufism, and other mystical teachings all have processes for "quieting the mind". Miracles can take place from the quiet mind.

Russell Targ explains non-locality as the most exciting research in quantum physics today. David Bohm, the famous British physicist, coined the term "quantum interconnectedness" based on the experiments that showed that photons from a common source would react to each other even when separated by many kilometers. Henry Stapp at the U. of CA, Berkeley, has deemed non-locality to be the "most profound discovery of all time." The scientific and spiritual implications of psychic abilities illuminate our observation that we live in a world far more profound than we ever dreamed.

No one ever became famous for repeating something someone else did. We revere the top athletes, the top musicians (and even some of the bottom ones if they are different), and in general the best in any field. Why? Because these are those who did not become part of the herd. The first third of our lives is taken up with outside forces trying to destroy our natural curiosity and instill in us that there is only one right answer to questions and problems and that they have to be memorized and regurgitated on exam day. Then, the damaged ego goes into the job market and becomes a boss, or even worse--a bureaucrat, and gets to be in charge of things. You know how dumb the average person is? Well, statistically, half of the world is even dumber. Eventually, things change due to the damaged egos in charge and entropy sets in and the Constitution gets altered. As Robert Anton Wilson once said, "The Consitution is flawed, but it is certainly better than what we have now."

But I digress. In my book, How Things Work... (Parker Publishing, 1972), I devote the first two chapters to intuitive problem solving. The ability to think in an intuitive and non-linear manner marks the difference between those who are members of the herd and those that run to the edge of the cliff to see what is there, and all too often fall over the edge.

The sheer number of scientific and technological breakthroughs is becoming so great that even the press can’t keep up with them. Many things that will impact your future have yet to be told to you. Hang on--the world of tomorrow will be based on the knowledge of today, and we are on the verge of the greatest explosion in technology the world has ever known.
