Glossary

Anarcho-syndicalism - A branch of anarchism which focuses on the labor movement. Syndicalisme is a French word meaning "trade unionism" – hence, the "syndicalism" qualification. Anarcho-syndicalists view labor unions as a potential force for revolutionary social change, replacing capitalism and the State with a new society democratically self-managed by workers. Anarcho-syndicalists seek to abolish the wage system, regarding it as "wage slavery."  For a very quick primer on anarchism in general by Noam Chomsky, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G6kf7XM9Nk
Also refers to a non-centralized form of government that is composed mainly of syndicates at various levels from neighborhoods on up to regional councils.  The Mafia typically operates its internal governance in this manner.  For a good, detailed write-up see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-syndicalism

Anomalous Trauma - Troubling UFO experiences, sudden scary psychic openings, harsh near-death experiences, painful spiritual breakthroughs (including some that seem to have a "Kundalini" signature), negative possession states. These can be worked through with various combinations from Gestalt work, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), David Grove's metaphor work, some spirit releasement therapies (see below), EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques) and EEG biofeedback training when appropriate (also see below) to help encourage a stretching of one's horizons from these extraordinary connections.

Anomalously Sensitive Person (ASP)
-  A person who has anomalously heightened levels of sensitivities in the physiological, immunological, neurological, cognitive, psychological, emotional, and/or transpersonal realms. Sensitivity in one realm seems to go hand-in-hand with sensitivity in the others. A person with learning style sensitivities (often mistakenly diagnosed as "disorders") or immune system sensitivities is likely to be a person with transpersonal sensitivities.  S/he’s likely to have a variety of transpersonal (or "anomalous") experiences (UFO contacts, mediumship experiences, and clairvoyant experiences.  David Ritchey, Ph.D. has developed a questionnaire, the "Holistic Inventory of Stimulus Sensitivities" (HISS), to help identify ASPs. It’s a useful tool for both researchers and for the ASPs themselves. By identifying an individual's full range of sensitivities, it paves the way for both understanding and managing them. Examples might include people who've had both a near death experience and sometimes multiple UFO contacts, who also can't wear an LCD wristwatch, because every one of them breaks spontaneously in a few minutes.

Anunnaki - (also transcribed as: Anunnaku, Ananaki) are a group of Sumerian and Akkadian deities related to, and in some cases overlapping with, the Annuna (the 'Fifty Great Gods') and the Igigi (minor gods). The name is variously written "da-nuna", "da-nuna-ke-ne", or "da-nun-na", meaning something to the effect of “those of royal blood” or “princely offspring” or "heaven and earth" (Anu-na-ki) The Anunnaki appear in the Babylonian creation myth, Enuma Elish.  In Hebrew these “gods” are called the Nephilim or Nefilim (see entry below).  For more, see this video from the “Very Different Accounts of Human Origins” page on this site. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hp0DAwy0-xM

COP - Co-efficient of performance, See over unity device.

Devolution - See Michael Cremo's video on the “Very Different Accounts of Human Origins” page:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vpj7ybNfaS8

Empathogen - a psychoactive compound such as MDMA (Ecstasy) that in the right set and setting tends to lead the experiencer to more empathic kinds of insights and actions with his/her companions. Enhanced loving, forgiving, ego softening are very common with these compounds.

Entactogen -
a psychoactive compound such as 2-CB that emphasizes physical and kinesthetic experience.  For instance, if one has an eyes-closed visual experience of an exploding star, one tends to feel the explosion event throughout one’s entire physiology.

Entheogen -
a psychoactive compound such as psilocybin mushrooms or ayahuasca whose central tendency is to open mystical doors and realms to the experiencer.

EVP -
 Electronic Voice Phenomenon.  See ITC.

Extra-Sensory Perception -
(ESP) is the apparent ability to acquire or transmit information or to cause events in the physical world by paranormal means independent of any known physical senses or deduction from previous experience.  ESP is often used as the over-arching term for many of the non-ordinary human abilities from telepathy to clairvoyance to pre-cognition to psychokinesis, etc.

Faster-Than-Light Quantum Mechanics -
Jack Sarfatti and some of his cohorts are outspoken enough:  They label most of modern physics "speed-of-light chauvinism."  A wake up call to anyone who's been sold the bill of goods that the Ultimate Universal Speed Limit is 186,000 miles per second.  Jack also talks about "post-quantum teleportation" and the future influencing the present in much the same way as the past does.  This is psychoactive thinking at its best!  And if it's even just a little bit true, it's like Zecharia Sitchin's evidence (see below) of our species' extraordinary origins:  It changes everything!!

Holotropic Breathwork -
Usually done in pairs in a group for about 1½ hours.  One sits and supports and reminds; the other lies down on the floor and breathes as hard and deep and fast and as long as possible.  Emotionally evocative music is played loudly on a stereo -- the bigger the sound, the better.  The sitter reminds the breather via an agreed-on touch or gesture to keep on breathing hard even after there's a big surplus of oxygen in the breather's bloodstream.  (This isn't dangerous unless you're pregnant, have a history of serious psychiatric problems, cardiovascular disease, or hypertension.)  Talking between sitter and breather would be very distracting and is strongly discouraged.  It's almost never needed except for bathroom breaks, etc. However, breathers are encouraged to give feelings full sway, so these sessions are often very noisy.

ITC - Instrumental Trans-Communication with the departed and other entities, some of whom may never have been incarnated, using equipment that's typically electronically based.  There's evidence of some success with several of these technologies even to the point of decipherable vocal conversation.  EVP, the electronic voice phenomenon, is the spontaneous group of such anomalous events, also most always employing electronics as the medium.  E.g., the phone rings, the lady picks it up, and it's her father who's been dead for three months.  In the conversation he refers to matters only he and she could know about, thus ruling out a hoax.  The same kinds of things have happened with sudden appearances on TV and computer screens.  A few of the TV appearances have been recorded.

OOPARTS - Out Of Place ARTifactS.  Items discovered in archaeological work and various digs that don't belong in the time frame of the work or dig at all.  Among them: the Baghdad battery, the Antikathera device, and the startling find of a wrought metal goblet in undisturbed, un-metamorphosed, seabed strata 600 million years old!  Forbidden Archaeology by Cremo & Thompson lists dozens more astonishing ones.  Mainstream archaeology typically ignores these objects or consigns them to the "mistakes" or "misinterpreted" bin.  Some are to be found under lock and key in the basement of the Smithsonian.

Over-unity device - an engine, mechanism or circuit, sometimes with no moving parts into which one inputs a specific amount of power (say five watts) which will output more power than the input (say 10 watts) is said to be “over-unity”.  The ratio of how much over-unity a device performs is usually expressed as the COP or co-efficient of performance, normally written as a percentage.

Monoatomic Gold - (often, “monatomic”) the non-metallic, non-toxic, zero-valence form of gold. It is a high temperature superconductor.  It can be manufactured alchemically out of 24carat metallic gold. It also occurs naturally in volcanic soils, seawater and in minute amounts in the purple or violet skins of fruits and vegetables and some medicinal plants such as red grapes, eggplant and violets. In recent years, some researchers have erroneously equated monoatomic gold with the philosopher's stone.  See especially on this site Laurence Gardner’s video http://www.livevideo.com/video/ConspiracyCentral/FC3DF7B1FBB64B

Near-Death Experience - (NDE) refers to a broad range of personal experiences associated with impending or actual death, encompassing multiple possible sensations ranging from detachment from the body, feelings of levitation, extreme fear, total serenity, security, or warmth, the experience of absolute dissolution, and the presence of a light, which some people interpret as a deity or a tunnel (often blue in color) through which the person/soul passes to reach the “other side”.  Some see NDEs as a paranormal and spiritual glimpse into the afterlife.

Nephilim - (also Nefilim) beings who appear in the Hebrew Bible, specifically in the Book of Genesis, and are also mentioned in other Biblical texts and in some non-canonical Jewish writings. Genesis Chapter 6, verses 1 through 4 describe the origin of the Nephilim

Panspermia - The position gaining ground among evolutionary theorists that life was “seeded” here from any of a number of places off-planet. Suggestions range from hardy spores being driven here on cosmic winds to intentional importations by intelligent beings visiting from elsewhere.

Post-Darwinism -
If both Darwin's theory of evolution and the Creationists' views are mistaken, then the obvious holding pattern is, "I don't know".  This is the post-Darwinist un-"position".  Very hard for either of the traditional camps to accept.  For more, go to the “Darwin's Creation Myth” page on the New Being Project website. http://newbeing.org/NB_Myth.html

Psychoactive Compounds -
These are a very different class of substances from the restrictive psychotropic compounds used in psychiatric hospitals:  the SSRIs, tranquilizers, tricyclics, anti-depressants, etc.  Rather, these are the mind-expanding substances such as LSD, psilocybin, ayahuasca, MDMA (aka "Ecstasy", "Adam") and Ibogaine, which, when used carefully in protected settings, have unequivocally proven therapeutic value.

Reactionless Drive - (also reactionless thruster, reactionless engine, and inertia drive) is any form of propulsion not based around expulsion of fuel or reaction mass - the name comes from Newton's Third Law of Motion, usually expressed as, "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction."

Rotary Attraction Motor - Works on the principle of a single electro-magnet attracting a piece of iron to produce mechanical energy.

Sitchin, Zecharia -
Author of The Twelfth Planet (1976) and Genesis Revisited as well as half a dozen others working with the robust evidence that our species is a genetically engineered cross 250,000 to 300,00 years ago between an indigenous hominoid, Homo Erectus, and a group of large, human-type beings (called the Nefilim in Genesis 6) from another planet in our solar system (called Nibiru by the Sumerians).  Sitchin's re-read of the original cuneiform tablets and many other strong indications and "ooparts" (out-of-place-artifacts) lend enormous credence to this scenario.  If it's basically right, it changes everything!

Spirit Releasement -
According to Dr. Bill and Judith Baldwin, founders of Spirit Releasement Therapy®, some attached "spirits" can be benevolent, though most will at least interfere with you and slow you down.  "Spirits" is in quotes because Bill and Judith are completely comfortable with the idea that the word may be a metaphor only.  Are there literally spirits in the universe of consciousness we inhabit, and can they literally attach themselves to a person?  The answer to that doesn't seem to matter.  The therapy usually works regardless.  For more information about their work click http://www.spiritreleasement.org/

Spiritual Emergency - Anomalous traumas (see above) of various kinds can trigger spiritual emergencies.  Another triggering event can be what's often called a "shamanic journey", a profound psychological encounter with death and subsequent rebirth, often with an upsurge of special powers and strong impulses to heal others.  The film “Resurrection” addressed this theme very well.  Another can be the "psychological renewal process".  A stagnant, work-a-day personality is stripped away (sometimes quite dramatically), and the very deep self emerges, often representing itself and its needs in consciousness by archetypal images and myths.  Traditionally in our culture, a mythic visionary explosion of this sort is labeled pathological, and tranquilizing medication thwarting its progress is administered.  However, if the process is honored and encouraged to run its full course, it is profoundly healing and integrative.  And brief!
Psychiatrist Stanislav Grof and his wife Christina coined the term and its more technically accurate companion, "transpersonal crisis".

Tantric -
Referring to Tantra or the Tantric tradition in India during the 6th to about the 11th centuries A.D. in which the principle of growth in understanding and participation in "The Universal Bigtime" is:  "That which binds us most is that which shall set us free".  Thus, sexuality and sexualoving gratification, a cardinal human "binder", is the focus of many brilliant methods in Tantra to open the "doors of perception".

Transpersonal -
is often used to refer to psychological categories that transcend the ordinary personal boundaries of time, space and ego-functioning. That is, stages of psychological growth, or conscious experiences, that move beyond the rational and often enter the mystical. The term is highly associated with the work of Abraham Maslow and his understanding of "peak experiences", and was first adopted by the human potential movement in the 1960s.  Sometimes associated with words and phrases like bliss, awe, cosmic consciousness, peak experience, non-duality, the “Perennial Philosophy”, etc.  Not to be confused with “parapsychology”, which is much more focused on the experimental, lab evidence, rather than the nature of the human experiences.  Find a
good write-up at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transpersonal_psychology

UFO -
Shifthappening.org does not subscribe to any single interpretation of this remarkable, worldwide set of events and exceptional body of evidence.  We like descriptors like "profound high strangeness" and psychiatrist John Mack's bon mot:  "UFOs are outreach for the consciousness-impaired."  (Here’s a waggish artist's concept of an American Civil War era UFO.)
